Metal Element – Lung – Week 42

One of the things I love most about Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it teaches us to pay attention to patterns. Our bodies are communicating with us all the time. We just don’t always know how to listen.

In TCM, the Lung system is associated not only with respiration, but also with the skin, nose, protective energy, and our relationship with the outside environment.

When Lung energy is out of balance, TCM practitioners may look for patterns involving the breath, skin, nose, susceptibility to environmental changes, or feelings of low energy.

That doesn’t mean that every stuffy nose, skin problem, or tired afternoon is caused by your Lung meridian. There can be many explanations for physical symptoms, and persistent or concerning symptoms deserve appropriate medical attention. The Five Elements simply give us another way to become curious about the connections within the body.
